“Today more than ever – said Sanda Ojiambo, CEO and Executive Director of the United Nations Global Compact, an organization that brings together a small group of companies that stand out most for their attention to sustainability – the world needs companies of all dimension continue to work to improve their sustainability performance and take action to build a better world”.
Each of us is asked, in our own small way, to do their part and companies, in particular, are called to commit themselves to sustainable development and to play a primary role in the fight against climate change. We care about the well-being of the planet. We love the wood and the woods from which this precious raw material comes. And, above all, we love to work with wood. Every day we work hard in our small way to carry out initiatives that improve and protect the environment, for the environment itself, for those who live there and for those who work with wood. For this reason, together with WOWnature, we have undertaken a path that aims to leave a positive footprint on the planet. WOWnature is a portal that allows you to support projects that improve the ecosystem in which we live, contribute to the fight against the climate crisis and enhance the production areas of this precious raw material. From the very beginning, the mission of Salvador (Solidea srl) has been to create machines that allow optimizing the use of resources and avoiding waste. The awareness gained over the years on the increasing scarcity of raw materials and the importance of enhancing what is available has transformed our machinery into a key element with significant added value for the world of production. To quote a fact, by using an optimising saw it is possible to save up to 15% of material compared to a manual cutting system. But that’s not enough for us. For this reason, for each Salvador optimising saw sold, a portion of the proceeds will be invested in the two projects that the company has decided to support: the improvement of the management of Bosco Ralser in the province of Bolzano and the reforestation intervention in an area of Burkina Faso.
Hand in hand with the increasing attention of companies to the themes of product design, choice of materials, production processes, solutions to manage packaging, the sensitivity and awareness of consumers towards the issues of environmental, economic and social impact increased as well. According to the forecasts of the study “Who cares? Who does? Sustainability Concern and Action”, conducted by Gfk, by 2025 the segment of “Eco Active” consumers will reach 40% of the total worldwide. In the current European scenario, consumers who demonstrate a growing sensitivity to environmental problems represent a segment that reaches 24%. In Germany, the number of Eco Active consumers, i.e. those who feel personally responsible and are changing their purchasing behavior, constitutes about 38%, while in Italy it is 23% of the total. Also according to this survey, through communication, companies should generate greater awareness and enhance the impact that consumers can have with their actions. According to Michele Centemero, Country Manager of Mastercard Italy, “it is essential that companies recognize their role in ensuring that the planet can continue to thrive. Not only because it is an aspect that is close to the heart of today’s and tomorrow’s consumers, but above all because it is the right thing to do. The planet belongs to all of us and for this a sense of collective responsibility is necessary that can give life to concrete actions ”.
