Why choose Supercut: cutting speed and versatility

20 | 09 | 2024

In a world where optimization and efficiency have become imperative priorities for every industry, woodworking is no exception. With more expensive raw materials and higher fixed costs, reducing waste and improving processes is key to ensuring sustainable and profitable production. For more than four decades, Salvador has been developing advanced technologies to increase cutting speed and wood optimization, including the Supercut series, with the goal of providing companies with innovative, high-performance solutions.

To help customers fully understand the potential of optimizing machines, we have compiled a first glossary that collects the main terms related to cutting wood with our technologies. This glossary is the result of experience gained through daily discussions with customers and partners.

From this dialogue also comes the question we are most frequently asked: what are the advantages of an optimizer for my company? Salvador optimizers are machines capable of significantly increasing productivity, streamlining processes and improving wood yield. These benefits translate into five main advantages for your company to which we have devoted an in-depth discussion:

  • Higher productivity: Salvador optimizers can reduce production time by up to 60-70%, speeding up the entire processing cycle

  • Higher wood yield: thanks to the precision of optimized cutting, up to 15% more useful material can be obtained compared to manual systems

  • Less manpower: as highly automated machines, they do not require significant use of skilled labor

  • Clear and monitorable costs: our optimizers offer detailed statistical data that allow time and costs to be tracked in real time

  • High safety standards: Salvador machines are designed to ensure maximum operator safety, reducing risks during use

The Supercut series: more speed in less space

These advantages are common to the entire range of Salvador machines. However, the Supercut series adds two more pluses: exceptional speed in a compact space. Designed to increase productivity when cutting single boards, the Supercut series is designed to quickly identify and remove defects and imperfections from wood while simultaneously performing optimization and grading operations.

The technological heart of the Supercuts is unique software that takes advantage of an innovative system with virtualized numerical control within a powerful computer. This system makes it possible to process a vast amount of data in real time, optimizing continuous cutting to obtain semi-finished products for further processing, such as for the production of pallets, crates, parquet and other wood products.

In fact, compared to other machines on the market, Salvador’s Supercuts are considerably more compact: the photocell readout station is integrated directly into the cutting unit just 1500 mm from the blade. This design makes it possible to reduce the space occupied, without compromising on performance.

Continuous optimization

Continuous optimization means that the machine, thanks to its high computing power, continues to reoptimize the table as it advances. Therefore, even if the workpiece reading photocell is positioned 1500 mm from the blade, perfect optimization can still be achieved.

To fully understand the advantage of continuous optimization, let’s take an example considering a hypothetical cutting list with three different lengths:

L1=2000 mm

L2=800 mm

L3=300 mm

Let us now imagine the case where the table has a defect 1900 mm from the beginning of the table. The machine reads the first 1500 mm without defect and tries to reach the longest length in the cutting list, i.e. 2000 mm. However, at 1900 mm it finds the defect. In this situation, we have 400 mm of board beyond the blade and another 1500 mm between the blade and the defect. Then, the machine recalculates in a fraction of a second the most suitable cutting sequence and, without any slowdown, cuts three pieces, respectively of 800/800/300 mm.

Supercut 300 and Supercut 500: power and precision at the highest level

The Supercut300 and Supercut500 machines introduce an additional distinguishing feature: the dual traction system, both from above and below, that moves the board to the cutting unit. Once the bar is placed on the belt, the wood introduced into the cutting unit is hooked by motorized rollers, synchronized with the belt via a pulley belt system, ensuring continuous and uniform traction.

This system minimizes the risk of even heavy or uneven wood slipping into the machine, providing greater reliability. Thanks to this solution, the Supercut can achieve extremely high positioning and cutting speeds, with the blade being almost invisible to the human eye.

Integration with scanners

The process of sorting defects and wood quality is an operation that requires some operator specialization, and finding capable operators is becoming increasingly difficult. Therefore, a machine called a scanner has been developed that performs these operations automatically.

The device fits in line with the log saw and independently detects defects and imperfections. The information is then transferred to the cut-off machine, which performs the precalculated cutting sequence. Salvador optimizers can be integrated with many types of scanners.

Salvador’s Supercut series represents a technological breakthrough in the field of optimized wood cutting. With its combination of speed, precision and compactness, it is the ideal solution for all companies seeking to improve productivity and efficiency. With unmatched evaluation, calculation and optimization capabilities, Supercuts offer a decisive competitive advantage in the woodworking industry.
